Paolo De Stefani is researcher, senior lecturer and aggregate professor in international law at the University of Padova, Department of Political Sciences, law and international studies. He teaches human rights international law at BA and MA level at the University of Padova, where he is academic oordinator of the master's degeee in human rights and multilvel governance. He is director of the Italian yearbook of human rights, and deputy coordinator of the joint international PhD in Human rights, society and multilevel governance. He is national director for Italy of the of the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (Global Campus of human rights, Venice).
After the degree in Law at the Padova University, he was awarded the human rights specialisation diploma at the School on Institutions and techniques of human rights protection of Padua University. He conducted research at the same University’s human rights centre. He has lectured on human rights law in several postgraduate and PhD courses. He has been adviser on human rights implementation policies for the Regional Government of Veneto and the Regional ombudsperson for children’s rights, and other public and private institutions. He has authored and edited publications (on human rights, international humanitarian and criminal law, children’s rights, national institutions for human rights). He is member of the Scientific Committee of the E. Zancan Foundation on social research in Padova, and journalist.

Thesis proposals

BA short theses may regard:
- ECtHR case law on:
-- "Italian" cases (Italy as respondent)
-- migrants, asylum seekers, refugees in European countries
-- EU human rights obligations and the ECtHR (including "Dublin cases)
- analysis of recent reports of UN Special rapporteurs on human rights
- case law and other activities of the UN human rights treaty bodies
- the CoE Social Charter and the Social Rights Committee
- implementation at Italian and/or EU level of the Conventions on he rights of the child and on persons with disabilities.

MA theses may address the following subjects:
- Humanitarian international law and human rights international law: interplay and cross-fertilization
- Humanitarian law standards in the case law of the ECtHR
- Migrants' and Refugees' protection policies in Italy and Europe
- ICC case law
- Privacy and data protection

Students may propose further subjects, provided they prove to be able to do research and draft their thesis independently. Methodological supervision is provided in any case.

Students may elaborate their dissertations -and supervision is provided- in Italian, English, and French.
